Development Team Report
Report #5— March 29, 2005
Carma Burnett Carew

To all Devo's,

As I sit here writing a recap of this last weekend, the word PRIDE comes to mind. I have to tell you that the BBSRA Devo Team performed very, very well this weekend. For those of you who were unable to attend, we definitely missed you and wish you could have been part of this great weekend. I was so proud of the entire group.

We started off on Thursday with POW...you know... that foreign substance made up of snow crystals that is light and fluffy falling from the sky. A good time was had by all who were there. On Friday, we had superior training on the race hill. We trained slalom in the morning and in the afternoon we trained GS. We were very fortunate to have our Head Varsity Coach, Uros, train with us and coach the kids. The kids skied well and spirits were definitely high! In the afternoon we picked up a couple of members from different teams and they all loved what we were doing and were impressed by our athletes.

The race weekend started with GS and then we raced Slalom on Sunday. Bogus Basin was seen on the podium over and over again. I would love to name names on who did exceptional but that would truly be the entire team. The kids who were not on the podium got personal bests for the season. The thing I find most impressive about this group is the team dynamic. I feel like we all support each other and are cheering each other on. The BBSRA team really acts like a TEAM. In my opinion...ski racing is difficult enough. It is an individual sport and when you are competing it's you against everyone else. At the same time the team support and having friends and competitors around who are cheering you on is a great motivator to do your best. Over the last 18 years I have coached at Nor-Ams, US Nationals and every imaginable Western Region event possible and I have to tell you that this weekend really made me feel proud to be the coach of this particular team.

At this time, I really, really want to express my sincere gratitude to Brett, Mike, Ray and Justin (even though Ray and Justin weren't there) for all of their hard work and dedication. These guys have stepped up to the plate and have been fantastic. I also want to thank Ashley for coming to Targhee this weekend and helping with the kids. She always does a great job and I know the kids were super happy to have her around. Also...as the year has progressed it has been a pleasure to get to know all of the parents of these Devo kids. After meeting y'all I can see why these kids are so great!

Earlier today, I heard about Bogus re-opening. I hope a lot of you will have the chance to get a couple of more turns in. I have to travel a little more this year with the Intermountain Division and won't be able to go up. I look forward to seeing all of you at the end of the season awards banquet. I am working on summer camp info this week and will get it out ASAP.

That's it for now,

Carma

P.S. Don't forget to go in to McU's and get your uniform ordered for next
year if you will be needing one!
