Freeride Team Report #1
January 18, 2008

It’s hard to believe we’ve been through 4 weeks of skiing already.  After a slow start in December the snow has been good and our group has had lots of opportunity to ski powder early in the year.

Our first competition at Bogus will be the Winter Games of Idaho Slopestyle.
This is a link to that event:

Early in the season, jumps and rails have been slow in the making due either to no snow, or too much snow at times.  We will be moving more of our skiing over to the freeride park area,  over the next several weeks as the rails and jumps are now up .

One thing that we’ve discussed every week is balance.   Working on staying balanced over the skis, in all situations and all snow conditions, has been a major focus and will continue to be so.

The younger group has been skiing all over the place and at this point every person I’ve skied with has skied the rails in the terrain park.  We’re always looking for small jumps to work on our tricks, and of course the balance on take off and landing.   We've had a few shots at some mogul skiing as well.  In the bumps we're working on staying in the fall line, keeping our upper body steady and always facing down.  One drill we've worked has been on the bump trails, trying to keep the skis on the ground up and down all the bumps...in other words using the legs as shocks and absorbing all the bumps.

The Devo team has been skiing hard and working on lots of air.  Again Balance, proper take off and landing, and pushing forward are constantly reminded with these kids as well.   These kids have been in the trees and banging powder and bumps so much, they haven’t spent much time in the park yet.  However, the jumps should be up by this weekend, so air time on these jumps should begin this weekend.   Most of these kids have been pushing their limits with air time, and working on various air tricks.

Thank you,

Coach Barry, Coach Mike, and Coach James
